Welcome to David Sherfield Photography - a newly created website to showcase my work as a Photographer.

I have been a Professional Photographer for over 30 years and work locally in Torpoint for the Royal Navy, although i was classically trained by the RAF and served 22 years in a different blue suit.

Being fortunate enough to live and work on the Rame Peninsula, a lot of my inspiration for images are drawn heavily upon this wonderful county.

Thank you very much for browsing my site, I hope you enjoy the images.

Please visit me again, I try to update the content regularly.
Best Wishes
David.

Photo Exhibition at HMS Raleigh

FLAGSHIP STAFF DISPLAY THEIR ARTISTIC TALENT

Three photographic enthusiasts employed by Flagship Training Ltd at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall showed off their artistic talents with an exhibition of their work during the training establishment's Open Day, attended by around 2,500 members of the public.

Dave Sherfield, who is employed as the official photographer at the base, along with graphic designer Paul Morgan and Colin Grace, an IT support technician, put on a display of 10 pictures each, taken mainly in the local area around Devon and Cornwall. The photographs included stunning views of Dartmoor and Whitsand Bay.

A former RAF photographer, Dave became fascinated by photography in the 1970s when his younger brother was studying the subject at 6th form. After 22 years in the RAF, travelling the world and 'shooting' everything that moved or otherwise, Dave left the Service in 2001. He became Raleigh's photographer in October 2005 and has made a major contribution to the PR output at HMS Raleigh covering both the Royal Navy and Flagship. Dave said: "Technology has changed so much over the past few years, more so recently, but I still get the same buzz when I download my compact flash card onto the PC and peruse the latest batch of pictures. Landscape photography, my latest passion, has become the direction in which I seem to be moving. I find this type of work exciting and so challenging - there are so many variables to consider. If I get a couple of usable shots from a shoot I'm pleased."

After 26 years in the Royal Navy, Colin began his second career in 2005 when he joined Flagship as an IT Support Technician in 2005. He became interested in photography in the early 80's when he bought a Pentax ME Super. Colin said: "I still have that camera, though it just gathers dust now. Through the 90's my photography interest died but was resurrected again with the advent of digital. With the purchase of a Nikon D70 DLSR the interest has very nearly turned into an obsession. The main camera I use now is a Nikon D200 and my foremost interest is landscape photography, especially around Dartmoor as I love to capture the beauty of the moors."

Paul is the new boy of the photography trio. He only took up the hobby last December when he purchased a top of the range Canon digital SLR camera. Paul said: "I wanted to try and do things on a professional level. My focus is seascapes mainly, and landscapes. I think we take the local beauty around us for granted and it's nice to keep a record to show others. Due to the "digital age," I've now got hundreds of pictures."

As well as the beauty of the local area, Dave, Paul and Colin also draw inspiration from each other. Dave said: "Between us we have a great forum, showing and critiquing each others efforts. This inspires us all to think, experiment with ideas and learn from each other. It was wonderful to be given the chance to exhibit our work to the members of the public attending the Open Day and our own workmates. We had some very positive feed-back. It's great to be able to share our images, rather than just keep them in a drawer."

Anyone wishing to view Dave, Paul and Colin's work can do so on the following websites; David Sherfield Photography, Blurred Visionz, Dartmoor Images.
