A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of electronic educational technology (also called e-learning) education courses or training programs. Conceptually, e-learning is broadly synonymous with instructional technology, information and communication technology (ICT) in education, EdTech, learning technology, multimedia learning, technology-enhanced learning (TEL), computer-based instruction (CBI), computer managed instruction, computer-based training (CBT), computer-assisted instruction or computer-aided instruction (CAI), internet-based training (IBT), flexible learning, web-based training (WBT), online education, virtual education, virtual learning environments (VLE) (which are also called learning platforms), m-learning, and digital education.

These alternative terms are all linguistically more restrictive than "educational technology" in that they refer to the use of modern tools, such as computers, digital technology, electronic media, networked digital devices and associated software and courseware with learning scenarios, worksheets and interactive exercises that facilitate learning.

Examples

The production of an e-learning tutorial covering the main functions and basic content requirements for successful wedding photography coverage, will greatly benefit the seasoned or novice photographer who is thinking about branching out into this sphere of commercial, ceremonial, and journalistic photography. It is the intended function of the tutorial to remove the mystery and precautionary concern usually attributed to this field of photography through guides and quizzes, and to maintain a well-informed photographer, ready to meet the challenges and demands for high quality original work, synonymous within the realms of wedding photography. To view the tutorial, please click on the following link “Wedding Photography.” For a documented guide on the production of this eLearning production, please click on the following link “Development Scope Document.”

Senior Project: Requirements

In this course, you will ultimately be creating one of the multimedia components of your portfolio, and as such, the project must be portfolio quality to pass the course. The final product should show evidence of your competence as a Web/multimedia developer, as well as your capacity to use appropriate applications to create attractive, informative, and engaging media experiences for a targeted audience. The project must prove competencies in the areas of multimedia production, such as interface design, sound, video, and other authoring and design processes addressed in this course, as well as in previous ones.

The positive application of your skills to solve a media problem is the focus of this class. All work on the project should be your original creation, application, and interpretation of media elements and content. Any work that you include that is not created by you must be documented with proper credit given to the originator of the work. This can be done in a number of ways such as including a credit or citation (e.g., a Web link or bibliographic reference). Make sure that you have a positive response on copyright permission from the owner of the work. This includes and is not limited to images, sounds, text, animations, video, and scripting language.

For my senior project I chose to create an online eLearning program for pre-schoolers and beyond, that would be both educational and entertaining. This would be gradually developed in stages that included four different levels of learning (activities) that would increase in difficulty throughout the stages. For the benefit of the course work, only stage one was completed, with production of the following stages to be developed at a later stage. This eLearning activity can be viewed by navigating to the following link: eLearning project “A is for alphabet.” along with the project documentation.
